Skanda was the son of Shiva and Parvati, but unlike their other son, Ganesh, who multiplied greatly, Skanda remained childless. He is shown holding a bird in his left hand, either a cockerel or a peacock, and staff in his right hand, part of which is missing. He has a moustache and a royal headdress.
